Worcestershire-born Fay Weldon dies at the age of 91

A WORCESTERSHIRE-born author has died aged 91.

Fay Weldon, who was born in Alvechurch, wrote more than 30 novels including The Life and Loves of a She-Devil, Splitting and the Booker prize-shortlisted Praxis.

Her screenwriting credits included ITV’s Upstairs Downstairs and an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice for the BBC.

Weldon was born in the UK but was brought up in New Zealand.




She published her first novel in 1967 and went on to be shortlisted for the Booker and Whitbread literature prizes for her works Praxis and Worst Fears.

A family statement released by her agent said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Fay Weldon (CBE), author, essayist and playwright.
