Wood Norton digs deep for Pershore Foodbank harvest

CARING residents and staff at an Evesham retirement village came together to donate items to Pershore’s Foodbank.

The kind-hearted gesture was part of Richmond Villages Wood Norton’s Harvest Festival to support the vital lifeline for neighbouring Pershore people hit the hardest by the cost-of-living crisis.

Pershore’s foodbank, like so many across the country, was founded by local churches and community groups, and aims to support the homeless, poor, and people in crisis.

The retirement village, located in Evesham, also organised Harvest celebrations for its residents, including a small service, music and hymn singing, plus a delicious Harvest supper.

Hymns such as ‘We Plough the Fields and Scatter’ were sung by residents from independent living apartments, assisted living apartments, and the care floor accompanied by fellow resident, John Calvert on piano.

Afterwards, the Richmond Villages Harvest Supper was held in the restaurant, where tea and coffee were served alongside soup and bread rolls which were prepared by residents living on the village’s care floor.

Judith Lewis, activities manager at Richmond Villages Wood Norton, said: “We were thrilled to host a Harvest Festival here at Wood Norton, it really was such a special day.

“Seeing one of our residents John Calvert playing the piano whilst others sang really brought a smile to all our faces.

“Here at Richmond Villages, we try and support our local communities wherever possible. The Pershore Foodbank does such amazing work and we are delighted to be able to contribute some items to them.”
