Wintry weather on the way this evening

Evesham Editorial 31st Jan, 2019   0

THE MET Office has issued a warning for snow and ice for Evesham and Pershore tonight (Thursday)

A band of rain moving in from the south west will turn to sleet and snow. Light snow is expected to start from 9pm into the early hours according to the latest forecast.

Drivers are being urged to take care both on the icy roads tomorrow morning and during the wintry weather this evening.

Breakdown company Green Flag said it was expecting more call-outs across the country this week, due to the conditions and urged motorists to prepare for the weather ahead.

The company’s experts suggest drivers have an ice scraper and good de-icer spray, should check their car’s anti-freeze levels are kept at the recommended amount they are supposed to be at and that their windscreen washer water container has sufficient washer fluid in it so screens can be kept clean while driving.

People should also ensure their tyre treads meet at least the legal minimum requirement of 1.6mm but preferably 3mm.

Drivers need to also allow for longer stopping distances in the wintry conditions.

And Green Flag suggests motorists have a cold weather kit in their car – including a reflective jacket, shovel, tow rope, torch and blanket.

Worcestershire County Council has confirmed the gritters will be out this evening for primary and secondary routes.
