Wildlife warning as report revealed

“THE UK remains one of the most nature-depleted countries, with one in seven species at threat of extinction,” – that’s the verdict of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust’s Director, Colin Raven.

Speaking after the publication of the State of Nature 2019 report, he added: “Worcestershire reflects the national and global trends – generally there are fewer numbers of fewer species in fewer places – when did you last see a water vole or did you hear a cuckoo this spring?

“Thankfully, 2019 has seen young people leading the way in promoting action for the environment as the only way to a brighter, sustained future for people and nature.

“At Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, we’re doing our part – from working in communities and with landowners to improve places where we live for wildlife.

“The legacy of this report must not be a catalogue of data and trends but of how we respond.

“That’s why we’re urging people to join us in asking Government for a strong Environment Act with a Nature Recovery Network that would help to join up our last remaining wild places by creating vital new habitats.”
