ARTISTS from across the Vale will be among those opening the doors of their creative spaces for the free annual Worcestershire Open Studios event.

The well-loved celebration of all things art kicks off on Saturday (August 20) until Bank Holiday Monday (August 29) for a behind the scenes peek on how artists bring their ideas to life.

Whether it’s painting, printmaking, jewellery, textiles, stained glass, woodwork, furniture making, there is a diverse range of artwork to see.

This is the first time the event is over ten days, so there’s more opportunity than ever to see the artists taking part.

Across the county 108 artists are taking part across 91 venues, including nine artists in the Evesham area.

Textile artist Louise Hancox, painters Sian Thomas, Jilly Oxlade-Arnott, Paulette Moore, Debbie Baird, Sara Chandler and Jane Powell, sculptor and painter James Tait and textile artist and illustrator Michelle Flint are those taking part this year.

“From my small studio in The Lenches, I create a range of textile art, 3D vessels, gifts and home decor, alongside my unique range of hand dyed and eco printed silk scarves,” Louise said.

“I am looking forward to welcoming visitors to my garden studio, where I will have a full range of textile artworks on display, as well as some works in progress, allowing visitors to come along and have a chat about my textile art and see some of the techniques I use to create them.

Worcestershire Open Studios was founded in 2015 and is the largest free art event in the county. Run by artists, it showcases the creativity and passion of Worcestershire makers.

Gilliam Simpson from Worcestershire Open Studios said: “It gives you access to the vibrant and creative makers we have on our doorstep, to be able to meet them and enjoy looking at local art.

“Learn and ask questions, see the tools and materials they use, you may even have the chance to have a go,” she added.

Visitors are encouraged to plan their day out, printed guides to Worcestershire Open Studios are available from the Tourist Information Centre in Worcester and local libraries.
