Water fun is messing about on the river

WATER-loving residents from Pershore and further afield took up the invitation to ‘mess about on the river’ at Bonkers Activities open day.

The event was held to showcase all the work which has gone into promoting the river through the heart of Pershore and in particular the new sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding.

Nationwide suppliers O’Shea board manufacturers came from North Wales, Tiki came from Cornwall and Red Paddle Co from Dudley were among those in attendance.

There was free archery, free refreshments and plenty to keep the visitors happy and occupied with more than 100 people taking the plunge to go on the river to experience Pershore from a whole new perspective and 25 people joined the beginner lessons, all of whom successfully stood up on the paddle boards.

Bonkers subsidise many of their sessions and a percentage of what they do goes directly to the local Riverside Centre Youth charity.

The group are also tirelessly working with the Avon Navigation Trust on some exciting new projects on the River Avon in the near future.

Owner Kim Bonk said: “SUP is such a great activity, and we keep finding more exciting things we can do. It’s all about getting active outdoors and having fun, come and join us!”
