UNSUSPECTING shoppers were surprised after a flash mob appeared on Evesham’s High Street today (Tuesday) to mark Dementia Awareness Week.

Dozens of flash mob members entertained onlookers as they sprung into action this afternoon.

The group, made up of Evesham Dementia Action Alliance members, performed two songs, ‘My Old Man’ and ‘Bicycle Made For Two.’

The flash mob was organised to mark Dementia Awareness Week in the town and the progress Evesham has made in its goal to become a dementia friendly town.

Speaking to the Observer, Janet Smith, Side-by-Side project lead for Worcestershire, said: “Dementia is everybody’s business.

“Everyone knows someone with dementia and its only going to get more prevalent so it’s really important everyone is comfortable talking about it to help raise awareness and to reduce that fear and stigma.

“The more people that know about it the better, as like I’ve said, everyone will know somebody affected by dementia, whether they have a diagnosis or not, it’s just really important communities, local people, local businesses and local organisations get in touch with the Alzheimer’s Society and find out how they can do more to support people in their community with dementia.”
