WORCESTER Warriors winger and South African superstar Dean Hammond headed to HoW College in Redditch to talk to sport and public services student about his career at the top of the game.

Dean joined the Warriors Academy from South Africa’s Western Province in September 2013 and has made more than 70 appearances for the club’s first team.

During his visit, Dean focused on the importance of having strong values and said resilience, discipline and enjoyment were key to his sporting success.

He advised students to be consistent with their training, have a clear goal and that overcoming setbacks was really important.

“Not just in elite sport but for anything you want to achieve in life,” he added.

HoW College’s public services lecturer Joe Amos said: “It was great to have Dean come in and speak to the students about his rugby career so far and the qualities that are vital to concur such a competitive industry.”

HoW College has strong links with the Worcester Warriors and has recently sponsored electrical installation student and back-row forward Caleb Montgomery.

Principal and chief executive Stuart Laverick said: “We’re once again thrilled to be working with the Worcester Warriors to enhance the players’ education and help them prepare for life after rugby.”
