Warning over telephone scam

Evesham Editorial 14th Jan, 2020   0

A WARNING has been issued about a telephone scam operating in the region which targets the elderly and vulnerable.

A person called, claiming to be from ‘Hammersmith Police’ and saying the victim’s debit card had been cloned and two people were in custody.

It is part of a courier fraud where victims are told to go to their bank, withdraw cash and hand it over to a waiting courier.

People are being urged to not trust anyone who calls and asks for bank details or asks them to withdraw money.

Anyone receiving such a call should hang up, wait ten minutes for the line to clear, and then report it to police on 101 or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

Anyone who has elderly or vulnerable friends, family or neighbours are also being urged to let them know this is happening in a bid to prevent more people being scammed.
