Volunteers needed to support the carnival

Evesham Editorial 1st Sep, 2019   0

A RALLYING call for Pershore people to lend a hand and support the town’s 2020 carnival has been issued as organisers prepare to hand over money raised from this year’s event.

The call comes ahead of the carnival’s AGM and presentation night at Pershore Town Football Club on Tuesday, September 10 from 7.30pm.

Certificates will be presented to those who took part in the procession, carnival programme design winners and members of the carnival royalty.

Donations will be presented to the Pershore Warhorse Memorial Fund, plus discretionary donations from the committee to Pershore Talking Newspaper, Pershore Volunteer Centre, Pershore Abbey Pipe Dreams, South Worcester Lifesaving and Lifeguard Club, Abbey Park First School PTFA, Cherry Orchard First School PTA and Holy Redeemer School PTA.

The AGM will follow the presentations and will include the election of officers and invitation to join the committee.

Hundreds of residents and visitors lined the streets in May to support one of the highlights of the town’s bulging events calendar to watch floats make their way from the King George Playing Fields to Abbey Park as part of a packed day of events.

Stalls, activities and entertainment for young and old alike filled the day before the rousing firework finale in the evening brought the curtain down on this year’s event.

Colin Shepherd, Pershore Carnival chairman said: “Pershore Carnival is organised each year by a small group of volunteers who are responsible for all the planning, organising, and fund-raising.

“The planning and fund-raising for 2020 carnival will start this month. We had a fantastic carnival once again this year, however in order to continue to make Pershore Carnival bigger and better year on year, we need more people to join the committee.

“We would therefore be pleased to see anyone interested in doing so at our AGM”

Anyone interested is asked to attend the AGM.
