Vocal students from the Vale get in harmony for charity

TALENTED young people from around the Vale have teamed up to record a song to raise funds for a mental health charity.

Five fabulous voice students of singing teacher Beth Haughton have created a version of the Cold Play classic Fix You to support the work of YoungMinds.

The heartfelt rendition is a collaboration between Nico, 9, Millie and Evie, both 14, Taegan aged 15 and 18-year-old Max who are all passionate about the performing arts.

The track was cut at Redhouse Studios, Fladbury under the watchful eye of Beth who runs her own vocal coaching and performance business BMusical.

She told the Observer it was her students’ idea to do a group song and make some money for a worthwhile cause.

“I try to do something different every year with them and this year it was a recording session. Everyone recorded an individual song and then they decided it would be great to do a joint one for charity.

“Because they are a youth group it made sense to raise money to support young people’s mental health which is very important. They were very adamant about it.

The five normally come for individual sessions but they worked really well together during the six hours in the recording studio. While they sang, Beth’s partner Oli Portman took photographs he later turned into a video. Watch the video below:

“They absolutely loved every minute of it and were buzzing afterwards. There were a few tears when they heard the finished result,” she added.

Fix You is available to download from the usual online streaming platforms or donations to YoungMinds can be made directly to Just Giving website and searching for ‘BMusical’s fundraiser for Young Minds Trust’.

YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity championing the wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.
