ARMED forces veterans and council officials gathered outside the Almonry Museum on August 15 to commemorate the anniversary of VJ Day.
Standards were raised and wreaths were laid to mark the end of the Second World War in the Pacific theatre and victory over Japan on August 15, 1945.
The service was hosted by the Evesham and District Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) and attended by the mayor of Evesham, Councillor Robert Raphael, town clerk Jo Adams, as well as Lt Col Mark Jackson OBE, formerly of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters, and High Sheriff of Worcestershire.
Phillip Rowne-Speed, chair of the Evesham and District branch of the RBL officiated over the service, which was conducted by the branch’s chaplain, Rev Andy Green. The last post and Reveille was played by Stephen Lane.
Wreaths were laid by Phillip Rowne-Speed on behalf of the Burma Star Association, and Nigel Fish on behalf of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association.
RBL standard bearers from Evesham and Pershore, and the Worcester Branch of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association were also in attendance.
Both the 2nd & 7th Battalions of the Worcestershire Regiment saw service in Burma during the Second World War which concluded 80-years-ago next year.
