A LUCKY hospices lottery winner will be cruising into 2017 after coming up trumps on the charities’ bumper draw.

Vivien McWhirter from Pershore has won top prize in the draw of a six day cruise for two to France and Spain worth £1,000, thanks to Spire Travel in Worcester.

Ms McWhirter joined the Hospices Lottery ten years ago and has previously won a cash prize.

She was prompted to join the lottery after being encouraged to support hospice care by a friend who was a St Richard’s Hospice volunteer.

This is the first time the Hospice’s Lottery bumper draw has offered specific prizes and supporters have helped raise over £20,000 for local hospice care.

Ms McWhirter said: “It’s fantastic to win. I’ve never been on a cruise but always wanted to go. I couldn’t believe when I was told I had won and it’s taking some time to sink in.”

There are 10,000 members who play the lottery, which is a joint venture between St Richard’s Hospice, Acorns Children’s Hospice and Primrose Hospice.

The Hospices Lottery offers local people the opportunity to support three hospices based in Worcestershire.

The prize funds for the lottery is £1,700 per week.
