Views sought over Worcestershire's ‘green infrastructure’

Rob George 5th Feb, 2023   0

A CONSULTATION into how Worcestershire County Council can enhance green spaces and natural habitats throughout the county has launched.

County residents have until March 6 to air their views on the revised version of the current Green Infrastructure Strategy.

Green Infrastructure describes the green spaces and natural habitats within our cities, towns and villages, for example our parks, local nature reserves, allotments and canal corridors.

The strategy looks at the natural environment sites residents and wildlife can currently enjoy across the county, how the current green infrastructure network functions across the county and how it can be enhanced in the future.

Coun Richard Morris, cabinet member for the Environment, said: “Green Infrastructure aims to ensure both people and wildlife have access to a high-quality natural environment, something we’re incredibly lucky to have here in Worcestershire.

“It comprises of many different elements including biodiversity, landscape, the historic environment, the water environment and publicly accessible green spaces and informal recreation sites.

“Good green infrastructure contributes to many important aspects of our daily lives such as enhancing health and wellbeing, providing sport and leisure opportunities, making space for wildlife and facilitating mitigation and adaptation to the impacts of climate change,” he added.

The strategy is produced by a partnership of statutory agencies, voluntary organisations, local district councils and the County Council.

The consultation document and details on how to participate in the consultation can be found on Worcestershire County Council’s website at www.worcestershire.gov.uk/gi.

Comments regarding the draft document need to be submitted by 5pm on March 6 in writing.
