Views sought on bids for funding

Evesham Editorial 7th Jun, 2018   0

A RALLYING call has been made by Evesham Town Council urging residents to give the thumbs up to three town projects which could be funded through New Homes Bonus money.

Council chiefs have £267,000 to spend on projects which will benefit the community using funds from the New Homes Bonus pot of cash- money handed to the Town Council from the Government for the number of houses that have been built and occupied in Evesham.

Evesham Town Council has been approached by three local organisations in need of a cash boost and now want to hear the views of town residents before making a final decision on whether to approve funding.

Staff at the Almonry have made a bid for money to aid the restoration of the historic venue’s roof and new electrics, Evesham Bowls Club have asked for cash to fund a new pavilion while Evesham Arts Centre and Prince Henry’s High School are hoping for funding for a replacement and widened access road.

The next stage is to consult with the public to gauge what support there is for each project and local residents can attend a meeting at Evesham Town Hall from 6pm on Tuesday.

Guests will be able to listen to a short presentation, ask questions, complete a questionnaire and have a say on where this money should be spent.

Respondents are not asked to pick one project over an other as there is enough funding for all and town council chiefs are seeking views on the merits of each project and whether they should recieve funding.

Town Clerk Stuart Carter said: “The Town Council are really keen to hear what the people of Evesham think about each of these projects, and it is a great opportunity to have their say.

“We hope to have representatives from all of the projects at the event who will be able to give greater detail and answer questions.

“However you don’t have to come along to be part of the consultation, the questionnaire will also be made available via the Town Council’s website.”

Feedback from the evening and from the wider consultation will be considered by the council and assist them in their decision as to whether to formally submit each project to Wychavon District Council for NHB funding.
