TRAVIS Perkins stores in the Vale have been spared the axe after company bosses announced they will be closing 30 branches across the UK.
The UK’s biggest builders merchant said they were taking the steps to close branches and axe 600 jobs due to an “uncertain UK outlook” for next year.
However, a spokesperson for the company confirmed to the Observer their Evesham and Pershore stores do not feature on the list of axed branches and both will remain open.
The firm, which employs 28,000 people and has 2,060 stores, is closing branches of Travis Perkins, Benchmarx, BSS and PTS, but not its DIY store Wickes after it was announced profits would be lower than expected this year due to weak sales in its plumbing and heating division.
Travis Perkins’ Chief Executive, John Carter, said: “It is still too early to predict customer demand in 2017 with certainty.
“Given this uncertainty we will be closing over 30 branches and making further efficiency driven changes in the supply chain.”
