YOUNG people from Evesham wowed the judges at the W-Factor talent contest.

DJ Amber Orpin, who is 15, from Evesham and attends The De Montfort High School, won the music category for her very creative song choices.

Nelly Ellis, 11, who is from Offenham and attends the Bredon Hill Academy, won the dance section for her ‘control, bold choreography and great emotion’.

Sophie Gilbert, 16, from Whittington came first in the over 15s singing category for her very strong vocals, amazing technical ability and well-controlled range and pitch.

The under 15s singing section was won by Poppy Gidley from Dodderhill School in Droitwich.

Pershore’s Number 8 Community Arts Centre was packed for the exciting finale of the annual extravaganza.

There were 11 young people from across the district competed in front of family and friends for the accolade of being crowned a winner in one of the four categories.

The judges included dance specialist Jenny Northam and former winners music specialist Jacob and singing specialist Lauren Nicole.

The compère was Andrew Easton from BBC Hereford and Worcester Radio, and last year’s under 15s winner Ciaran Baker provided the entertainment during the judges’ deliberations.

Jenny Davis, Wychavon’s arts development officer, said it was a fantastic evening and the competition was as tough as ever.

“The talent and passion of the young people taking part was evident to all and it’s been wonderful to see the performers grow in confidence following on from the auditions.”
