YOUNG people and families from Avon Vale District scouting community marked St George’s Day with a parade and church service on Sunday (April 27).

The parade was led through the town centre in glorious sunshine  by Avonbank Brass Band and accompanied all local groups including Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

The event to honour St George, the patron saint of Scouting was joined by special guests, the Mayor and Mayoress of Evesham, Councillors Robert Raphael and Melanie Griffiths.

“I was enormously proud of all the young people who turned out to make this traditional parade and service such a great success.

“It really was heart-warming to be part of their day, and to see first-hand the successes achieved by the scouting movement and all the great work undertaken by the adult volunteers,” Coun Raphael said.

They attended an act of worship at All Saints Church, which was conducted by the Reverend Dr Prajna Lad.
