VALE residents are being encouraged to take part in an Evesham charity’s campaign to deliver thousands of gift-filled shoeboxes to impoverished communities in Romania and Belarus.
Teams4U’s ‘Christmas Shoebox Appeal’ is calling on residents to donate items such as toothpaste, stationery, puzzles, gloves, hats, scarves, plastic utensils, soap, sweets or chocolate, small toys and costume jewellery.
The charity’s warehouse, in Davies Road, opens for processing on Monday, October 30, when volunteers will sort through the shoeboxes before packing them on to a lorry and transporting them to those living in abject poverty.
Last year’s successful campaign saw 19,000 shoeboxes delivered to children in Eastern Europe.
Paul Jeanes, Teams4U volunteer and warehouse manager, said: “We’re already busy getting leaflets delivered out to schools, churches and other groups and organisations about this year’s campaign.
“If you don’t have a gift-filled shoebox to donate we can give you an empty one to fill. However, there’s already a limited supply so please get in touch soon.”
The requested donation this year remains at £2.50.
