AN URGENT appeal has been launched to find a sponsor willing to stump up the cash to fund the first cut of Evesham’s world-famous asparagus.
Organisers have made the plea after the original backer for the £1,200 asparagus round pulled out.
Celebrations of the famous Gras have had to be postponed until May 22 due to Covid but the quirky troupe of asparagus characters will be heading to London this weekend to handover the first-cut round.
Gus the giant asparagus man, the AsparaFairy and Asparamancer Jemima Packington will travel from Evesham to London Paddington via Great Western Railway to deliver the round to charity Dogs on The Streets.
The charity focuses on looking after animals belonging to the homeless and holds a mobile vet centre in The Strand every two weeks.
In exchange for the four figure sum, they will receive the prestigious round of more than 100 prime asparagus spears and the knowledge they are contributing to a truly great British charity.
