WITNESSES are being sought following an unprovoked assault on a woman in Evesham on Monday (September 1).

The offence happened at around 7.15am on the riverbank between Abbey Bridge and Evesham Rowing Club.

The victim was jogging along the riverbank when she was approached by a man who grabbed and assaulted her. The victim managed to run off and make her escape.

The offender is described as white, in his early 20s, clean shaven, expressionless and with a thin and gaunt face. He was wearing a grey hooded top pulled tightly over his face and dark denim jeans. He was also carrying a fishing rod.

Detective Sergeant Kate Stevens said: “We are taking this assault very seriously and wish to speak to anyone who may have seen a man of this description in the area this morning.

We particularly wish to speak to a woman who was walking a Jack Russell dog prior to the incident who may have vital information to share.”
