A UNIVERSITY of Worcester academic has won a national award after being named Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Champion of the Year 2022

Dr Scott Andrews, deputy head of the university’s Business School, was recognised for his championing of the institution throughout his teachings and leadership of its programmes at the university, which has a long-established partnership with the CMI.

The Champion of the Year award acknowledges the work of an individual who has proactively championed CMI within an organisation, institution, or employer, using and promoting the resources available and applying them to greatest effect.

He said: “I was delighted and honoured to receive this prestigious award, which also serves as a recognition of the university’s commitment to both academic and professional development through professional body accreditation across all the management disciplines at Worcester Business School.”

The university’s Business School provides professionally accredited programmes for all its business and management degrees. This means every business and management undergraduate and all the Business School’s postgraduate students receive a degree that is dual accredited by the CMI. All successful graduates also receive an accompanying professional award from the CMI.

Dr Andrews, who is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, has worked in the higher education industry for more than 25 years and at Worcester for eight years. He is currently principal lecturer in leadership and management and became deputy head of the Business School in 2021.

“My journey with the CMI since arriving at Worcester has been made possible because of the ongoing support of the university, colleagues and senior management at Worcester Business School, and our Vice Chancellor,” said Dr Andrews, who achieved CMI Chartered Manager status in 2019.

“All of these people have recognised the incredible value of partnership with the CMI to ensure we are constantly developing our programme portfolio to meet the genuine leadership and management needs of the business community, informed by employers and regularly revised to reflect the changing contexts of our business world.”

He added that graduating students had told him of the competitive advantage that dual accreditation had provided at successful graduate job interviews.

All students are registered for CMI membership, enabling them to access significant resources on offer, as well as the CMI’s employability resources.
