Unique art project to highlight Evesham's past

Evesham Editorial 9th Oct, 2019   0

A LONG-AWAITED art installation which will project photographs of Evesham’s history onto the Almonry Museum will launch next week.

The Almonry Projection, which is part of the Enlighten Project, will run every night for one year at dusk until 11pm from next Saturday (October 12).

As part of the launch, free drop-in workshops will be held at the museum from 2pm to 5pm where people of all ages can create a light which will be used to temporarily decorate the Almonry Gardens.

Speeches will be from 7.50pm before the projection launch from 8pm.

The project will see a variety of still photographs projected slowly on to the museum depicting Evesham’s history, including the River Avon, Evesham Abbey, the First and Second World Wars, Simon De Montfort and horticulture.

The Almonry Projection is part of the first phase of the Enlighten Project along with the War Memorial and The Bell Tower.

Fund-raising is ongoing to fund phase two which will see the exterior of All Saints Church and the archway to the Abbey Gardens lit up.

Coun Rob Adams, portfolio holder for Community Engagement, Culture and Sport at Wychavon District Council, said:

“We are so excited the Almonry Projection will soon be up and running and we hope people walking past will take a moment to enjoy the photos and learn about Evesham’s rich history.

“Thank you to all the people involved that have worked hard to make this happen.”
