COUNTY councillor Peter Griffiths has taken his seat on Evesham Town Council after being elected uncontested to serve voters in the Little Hampton ward of the town.
The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Labour’s Heather Kelleher
Nominations for candidates were called for by the closing time of 4.30pm on October 6. No other nominations were received so the Electoral Services manager declared the result as it was uncontested.
Coun Griffiths is the sitting County Councillor for Evesham North West division which includes Little Hampton so this result carries great continuity for Hampton residents, Conservative chiefs told the Observer.
“Peter has a strong reputation for ‘carrying the flag for our town’ at every opportunity. He is an experienced councillor having served on Wychavon for four years prior to winning his seat on the County Council where he sits on five panels carrying the message for Evesham to the heart of local Government,” a party spokesperson added.
“Peter’s mantra is ‘Getting the job done’. Peter is not prepared to stand by and listen to rhetoric, he believes in outcomes being the only measure.
“He has already made a difference by directing funding for three additional defibrillators, has placed benches in the high street, with more to come, has succeeded in allowing cafes and eateries to establish outside, on pavement, dining, which bring a lively continental feel to our high streets, and he has plans for more such initiatives which will bring the buzz back into Evesham.
“Peter along with his other County Colleagues is advancing discussions to make traffic management changes and bus service improvements which could make a significant contribution to the amenity of the town.”
