A LOCAL businessman has been chosen by UKIP to fight the Mid Worcestershire seat at the General Election.

Richard Keel was chosen following a hustings event at St Andrews Town Hotel in Droitwich last Friday (January 30).

The 43-year-old runs his own rural construction business and also imports tractors and other

collectables from the USA.

He lives in Grafton Flyford with wife Barbara and has been a committed member of UKIP, helping re-establish the local branch and also stood for the party in the last county council elections.

“I’m delighted to be selected to represent the UK Independence Party in Mid Worcestershire,

a strong local branch with great public support.” he said.

“I hope to give voters the opportunity to return an MP who has grown up locally and lives and works in the area

“It’s time that the people of Mid Worcestershire were given the opportunity to vote for a

fundamental change in who governs our country.

“People deserve better health services, improved living standards, an education system which means children reach their full potential, reduced university tuition fees for the right skills and proper control of our borders by pulling out of the EU.”

Mr Keel joins the Conservative candidate Nigel Huddleston and Labour’s Robin Lunn to contest the seat at May’s General Election.

Departing Conservative MP Sir Peter Luff retained the seat in 2010 with 27,770 votes, a majority of 15,864.
