AN AWARD-winning film telling the story of refugee children in France is being shown in the town on Friday, March 22.

Calais Children – A Case to Answer will be screened by Evesham Vale Welcomes Refugees next at the Quaker Meeting House in Cowl Street at 7.45pm.

The powerful movie shows how director Sue Clayton brings human rights lawyers to the Jungle camp to insist that the children be brought to the UK.

As the Calais jungle was set to be razed in October 2016, there were over 1,900 unaccompanied minors stranded there – many of whom had a legal case to enter the UK.

Sue fought to get the children recognised and their cases heard.

But with the camp soon to go up in flames, she faced a race against time.

Then following Saturday, March 30, there will be a clothing collection at Evesham Methodist Church from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The group is affiliated to Refugee Action and part of Worcestershire Welcomes Refugees.

It is currently preparing to welcome Syrian refugee families to Evesham when they have found suitable private rented accommodation.

Meanwhile they are raising awareness and funds and carrying out collections for Worcestershire-based People In Motion which sends warm clothing and bedding to refugees in holding camps in Calais and Greece.

Members are also knitting warm blankets by joining up squares – so far 65 have been made.
