Twinning with Dreux to revive with this week's rugby visit

A TEAM of French rugby players will be visiting the Vale this week as part of a bid to revive relations with one of Evesham’s twin towns.

On Thursday, April 23, a party from Dreux Rugby Club from northern France will be arriving in Evesham to play an U16 game against the home side.

They will be accompanied by supporters and coaches as well as a group from Dreux Twinning Association.

The last time a Dreux team visited was in 1978 for a return fixture after Evesham toured there in 1977.

More recently, a visit by Evesham Rugby Club representatives to Dreux in 2023 to reestablish links, the U16s enjoying a visit in 2025.

Their schedule will include a guided town walk, a coaching session by Gloucester Hartbury coaches and a game before Evesham 1st XV on Saturday, April 25. It will be the last league game of the season.

There will be a reception for the visitors in the town hall at 6pm on Friday 24 evening for anyone who played in those historic fixtures or has been involved in the past and is interested in reforging closer links with Evesham’s twin towns.

All are welcome to attend the rugby club for the game on Saturday at the club on Blind Lane off Albert Road.


The visit has been supported by a £2,500 grant from Evesham Town Council.
