A LARGE tree next to Evesham’s iconic Bell Tower is being removed after becoming unstable.
The Robinia pseudocacia tree in Abbey Park has decay in the roots, has become partially uprooted and is leaning on neighbouring trees for support. It has been recommended the tree is removed on safety grounds.
The trunk will be left in place to rot away naturally.
Work will take place during the first week of February.
Coun Emma Stokes, Executive Board Member for Environment on Wychavon District Council, said: “We are always reluctant to remove any tree and only do so as a last resort.
“In this case the tree’s condition means, regrettably, we have to take this action.”
