THIS weekend’s action-packed Battle of Evesham festival promises to entertain visitors with its spectacular reenactments, living history camps, and a plethora of traders offering the discerning medieval shopper everything from armour to artisan crafts.
New for 2025 is a range of eclectic ticketed cultural events which will take place in the presentation pavilion, including a Saturday concert by Old Time Sailors who will be performing centuries-old folk and shanty songs at 7pm.
On both Saturday and Sunday, a number of fascinating talks by some highly respected experts on various aspects of medieval history will run all day.
Broadcaster Tony McMahon will present a talk on the history and mystery of the Knights Templar on Saturday at 11am and on Sunday at 4pm, academic Dr Faith Tibble will explode assumptions about the crown of thorns – a powerful symbol in Christianity.
Top of the bill, however, is worldwide comedy icon, prolific author and presenter of Channel 4’s Time Team, Sir Tony Robinson, who will talk about his new book at 2.30pm on Saturday and Sunday at 1.30pm.
For fans of metal, Europe’s number one AC/DC tribute act will play some high-voltage rock n roll at 7pm, and in complete contrast, the TFO Community Orchestra will play music from medieval movies and the small screen on Saturday at 5pm.
A separate miniature wargaming convention will take place at Wallace House Community Centre, Oat Street, on Saturday and Sunday.
