WORK to upgrade the gas pipes in Pinvin near Pershore is progressing well according to network infrastructure operator Wales and West Utilities.
As part of the next phase of work it has been agreed with the county council that Main Street will be closed to traffic from today (July 20) until 28 August.
A diversion route is currently signposted, and access will be maintained for residents, however, motorists are being advised to allow sufficient travel time for their journeys.
The project, which began in April, is part of a wider project to invest over £5m over the next two years to upgrade gas pipes across the area.
An intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see nearly 17km of gas pipes across the region as the company improves critical energy infrastructure to benefit approximately 1,700 local customers.
Ryan Barkway from Wales & West Utilities who is managing this work, said: “We have planned this work during the school holidays to minimise local disruption and our team is committed to working as quickly, and safely, as possible to complete the project in a timely fashion.
“We’ll be keeping the local community updated on these works and working with the local authority, and other key partners, to keep disruption to a minimum.
“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and businesses can rely on every day.
He added that after the intensive phase of work had been completed the upgraded network will meet today’s energy needs, and ready to transport greener gases in the future.
“By completing this work now, barring any emergency repairs, we can avoid returning to the area and causing further disruption to the local community for decades,” he added.
