Towns ready to fall silent as we remember the fallen’s sacrifice

Evesham Editorial 13th Nov, 2021   0

EVESHAM and Pershore residents will fall silent to remember all those who gave their lives for peace and freedom at this year’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations.

Residents will once again pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice both in the two world wars and subsequent conflicts worldwide.

Following a severely scaled back programme to mark Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday last year, due to the pandemic, parades and services are returning to the county this year.

Coun Rob Adams, chairman of the Worcestershire Armed Forces Partnership, said: “It is wonderful so many of our communities are able to revert back to usual commemorations with parades returning across the county.

“It is a really poignant opportunity to be able to come together and pay our respects to those who have lost their lives fighting for their country.”

While there is no church service in Evesham on Sunday, there will be a Remembrance parade through the town.

Organisations and veterans will be among those to pay personal respects at the town’s War Memorial which will stage the service of Remembrance.

Before then the parade will leave from the High Street, down Bridge Street towards the War Memorial.

The parade will leave after the service and wreath laying via Vine St. passing the Saluting Dias to the Market Square for dismissal.

Those wishing to may go into the Town Hall for refreshment.

Road closures will be in place in Pershore as the town remembers those who gave their lives.

The parade will march from the High Street car park to Pershore Abbey from 10.10am to 10.45am meaning the High Street, Broad Street, Church Walk and Church Row will be closed between those times.

Those routes will again be closed for the return journey, scheduled to take place between 12.15pm and 12.45pm.
