TABLETOP-GAMERS from across the UK will soon be descending on Evesham for the town’s newest convention.

A weekend of miniature wargaming is scheduled (August 2 and 3) at Wallace House Community Centre for the Battle of Evesham’s 760th anniversary.

Wargaming involves simulated battles using miniature models of soldiers or troops on the battlefield.

It involves strategic gameplay and often incorporates elements of modeling and painting in historical or fictional settings.

Two days of games and demonstrations covering 500BC to 1815AD, is being organised by Battle of Evesham committee members, David Snowden and Martin Hackett, alongside a large bring-and-buy area.

Roughly 25 traders and 12 demonstration and participation games are expected.

Martin, who has written books on wargaming and is a model maker for museums, told the Observer: “Baronswar is a new venture for Evesham.

“Traders and gamers will come from all around the UK and have a great variety of products on offer and colourful battles for visitors to admire.

“These miniature battles are a great way to educate people of all ages about how battles were fought, the tactics involved and how armies looked.”

Organisers hope the show will help to garner interest in the formation of a new wargame club in Evesham – based at Wallace House.

The six-times national wargaming champion added: “Wargaming is a fine pastime. You research about the battles, the tactics, the uniforms, and the equipment.

“Working as a team you can learn both life and business skills.”

The event runs 10am to 5pm both days, with prizes awarded for the best battles.
