Town groups given a chance to bid for cash

Evesham Editorial 22nd Feb, 2019   0

A £263,000 CASH giveaway is on offer local clubs and groups and Evesham Town Council chiefs have urged members of the community to come forward and bid for a share of the money.

Council bosses have issued the rallying call to clubs or organisations which have a project that needs funding after being allocated the latest round of New Homes Bonus cash from the Government.

The cash pot is available to invest in the local community where new housing has been built and can be used to support and encourage a diverse range of improvement schemes and projects across all age ranges, a wide range of interests and wherever possible innovative initiatives to meet the needs of Evesham.

Money from previous New Homes Bonus handouts has been used to support the ‘Round Evesham Walk’ which aims to make an attractive area for walking/taking into account the proximity of the river, the history associated with the town and its market garden heritage

The fund has also been used to put a bus shelter on the High Street adjacent to the car wash before the station. refurbish the base of the Hampton Scout and Guide Association and to support the Abbey Cloisters Project

Life-saving defibrillators in and around Evesham have also been provided thanks to the cash as well as enhancements to interior of Evesham Town Hall including new hand rail, flooring, projection equipment, and fire and intruder alarm

Now the Town Council want more ideas to come forward for consideration for a slice of the £263,000 available. The projects will be considered by the New Homes Bonus working group which will then decide which to recommend to the full council and a public consultation before they are scrutinised by Wychavon District Council.

Mayor of Evesham, Coun Mark Goodge said: “I whole heartedly welcome this news. It will be a great opportunity for local clubs and organisations to apply for funding in their local area and we look forward to the ideas coming in.”
