Town car park to partially close to allow medical centre to expand

A TOWN centre car park will be partially closed for eight months while work takes place to allow a medical centre to expand.

With work to begin next Monday (January 30) to extend the DeMontfort Medical Centre, a total of 25 spaces in Burford Road Car Park will be unavailable and the motorcycle bays will be relocated.

The project will see the creation of new consulting rooms to allow the centre to meet future demand for medical help, with the potential to cater for an additional 7,500 patients.

There will also be improved access to the car park entrance, as well as the creation of six new spaces.

There will still be 39 long stay spaces available to use within Burford Road Car Park and further short stay parking available in nearby The Leys car park.

The building work is set to be completed by the end of September.

Coun Richard Morris, board member for economy and housing at Wychavon said: “We apologise for any inconvenience while this work is taking place but it will be worth it, as when finished the new expanded centre will play an important role in meeting the future healthcare needs of Evesham residents.”

Christine Colls,  Practice Manager, DeMontfort Medical Centre said “With the support of Wychavon and NHS England we’re extending our premises to meet the increasing health needs and patient population in the local area.

“We apologise for the disruption to the local area while the works are taking place and will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum.”
