Tourism chief hoping to win award

Evesham Editorial 6th Feb, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

ONE OF the leading lights behind iconic festivals in Evesham and Pershore will embark on a tour of the county in her bid to become Visit England’s Tourism Superstar.

Angela Tidmarsh is one of just 10 UK tourism leading lights to be nominated for the prestigious award supported by the Daily Mirror.

Throughout February local residents will be ‘going green’ and ‘going purple’ to show their support to Angela who helps bring in hundreds of thousands of tourists to the county each year through festivals such as the Asparagus Festival in Evesham and Pershore’s Plum Festival.

Angela, who joined Wychavon District Council in 1976, has served as Tourism Officer for 32 years, becoming an integral part of the development of tourism across the district.

She has also been instrumental in the creation of events right across the Vale of Evesham, Broadway, Pershore and Droitwich Spa.

The success of the Asparagus and Plum festivals for which Angela was the driving force behind have put her up for the prestigious honour.

“I’m so thrilled to have been nominated and I’m really humbled by the amount of support I’ve had already,” she said.

“When I discovered I’d been nominated for this award I was honoured. Now I’ve reached the shortlist of ten, I’m completely overwhelmed and “almost” speechless!

“To be rewarded in this way for doing something that I enjoy and that benefits and brings joy to so many is wonderful.

“If you want to know more about why Wychavon is so special then visit the website, join us on our tour but if you can’t do that

I’d be just as happy if you simply gave me your vote!,” she added.

Angela’s bid for tourism stardom can be followed using the #Vote4Ange hashtag on Twitter and her campaign will culminate with a Vote4Ange parade on February 21, when she will take to the road on tour.

She will board a lorry to visit Evesham Country Park and Webbs of Wychbold together with supporters including Gus the Asparagus Man, Prunella Plum and a host of well wishers.
