VOLUNTEERS at a local independent charity are celebrating after scoring top marks from the CQC (Care Quality Commission).

Headway Worcestershire, which supports people in their own homes, was inspected for its care service in two seperate visits in February and has been rated ‘outstanding’ by CQC chiefs.

The charity works mostly with people who have an acquired brain injury (ABI), which is a term used for all brain injuries to a brain which have occurred since birth, including traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Staff were praised in the report as ‘highly skilled, motivated and knowledgeable in the care and support required for people with an acquired brain injury’.

“They provided flexible care and support in line with a person’s needs and wishes. The staff team was consistent and people achieved positive outcomes which exceeded expectations,” the report added.

“Staff worked alongside other family members and a range of professionals to provide people with a better quality of life, supporting them to develop in areas such as communication, social interaction and independence.”

Headway chief executive Kathryn Davis said: “Our specialism is acquired brain injury, Worcestershire wide and our aim is to help people achieve their goals and enjoy a quality of life consistent with their desires and interests.”
