MEMBERS of the Great Bear Explorer Scouts, who are based in Evesham, gave presentations of their activities and camps during 2018 to an audience of parents and leaders.
They talked about fun at kayaking and raft building, handbell ringing, and cooking over open fires.
Refining their use of map and compass was put to good use during challenge hikes at County Camps in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, where ‘Team Great Bear’ regularly achieved a place among the first ten teams home.
They came first at the annual Scout Trek Hike based around Inkberrow and brought home the Venture Trophy for the second year running.
Highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Chief Scout Platinum Award to Noah Booker. To gain this award, Noah completed the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
His activities were drumming, cycling, working in his school’s farm and garden, and a two day backpacking expedition in the Forest of Dean.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is closely linked to the top Scout Awards, but to achieve these, additional activities are required.
To achieve the Platinum Award, Noah spent six nights camping with Explorers, ran international activities for Great Bear Unit, and covered the area of ‘Values’ while supporting services at his church.
