Time to unlock your heart...or it will get broken

LOVED up couples across the county have been asked to return to Diglis Bridge in Worcester and unlock their ‘love locks’ as county chiefs launch a bid to clean the bridge.

Worcestershire County Council is encouraging people to collect locks placed on the bridge, before September 2

The locks currently attached to the bridge are showing signs of wear and tear and will need to be removed for contractors to clean the area.

The craze is extremely popular in European cities including Paris, Cologne and Barcelona, where loved-up couples lock their messages on to bridges then throw the keys into the river below.

Council chiefs haven’t specified how they expect couples who have thrown the keys away to collect their love lock.

Jon Fraser of Worcestershire County Council Highways said: “Many of the locks that have been attached to the bridge are not suitable for outdoor use and are now beginning rust and stain the wiring.

“The removal of the locks will allow us to clean the area thoroughly and improve the overall look of the bridge.

“We understand there is often a sentimental attachment to the locks placed on the bridge, so we wanted to allow time for people to collect the locks before they are removed,” he added.

The remaining locks will be stored for a month and available for people collect from County Hall reception.
