Throw out your best ideas to name lorries

Evesham Editorial 2nd Sep, 2018   0

EVESHAM and Pershore residents are being urged to get their thinking caps on to come up with names for Wychavon District Council’s new 15 waste and recycling lorries.

The new vehicles, bought by the authority and its recycling collections partner FCC Environment, will take to the roads in October this year and they want all the residents in the district to get involved and help give them new monikas.

The state-of-the art lorries will be working hard for years to come collecting, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, food cans, drinks cans, cartons, and much, much more.

The 15 best responses, chosen by the panel of experts, will be emblazoned on the vehicles for many years to come.

Coun Emma Stokes, Wychavon’s portfolio holder for environment and street scene, said: “The naming competition is also a fun way for residents to welcome them to Wychavon.

“I can’t wait to see the ideas – please do get funny and creative.”

The new lorries are part of an upgrade so all residents can recycle more than ever before, including batteries, some electrical items, electronic waste items and lower grade textiles not good enough to be resold.

The lorries have the latest euro 6 standard engines which are cleaner and produce lower emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and fine particles, 80 per cent lower levels of the NOx over the old truck and half the level of fine particles.

The bin lifter at the back of the vehicles is electric, making them quieter and improving fuel consumption as they do not rely on power directly from the engine.

Some residents’ collection days will be changing but more information on those alterations will be given when the time comes.

The frequency of collection will remain the same.

FCC Environment Regional Director Steve Longdon added he was also looking forward to seeing residents’ suggestions.

“We are delighted to be working with a forward looking council keen to invest in an efficient fleet of recycling vehicles to save taxpayer cash in the long-term.”

All entries must be less than 25 characters and residents are asked to ‘keep it clean’.

The deadline for entries in 5pm on September 14.

Entries can be e-mailed to [email protected] or be posted on the Wychavon’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
