Tesco staff set to go the extra mile

Evesham Editorial 20th Mar, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

STAFF at Evesham’s Tesco will be walking a marathon without leaving the store in a bid to bring the community together.

The Worcester Road supermarket will attempt to cover the distance of 26.2 miles over three days in the stores foyer, on a stepper supplied by Utopia Gym.

The charitable event comes in the wake of store worker Vicki Anderson being named Evesham’s Tesco community champion replacing Kim Carter who has retired after years of raising money for the community.

Miss Anderson has previous charity success herself having raised more than £900 from her head being shaved, with several other events being organised throughout her reign as community champion.

The mammoth effort is to bring the heart of the town’s community together to show them there are events and activities on which they can participate in and support.

Miss Anderson said: “I hope as my first event as community champion we have a good response from the public and rally the community together in the hope they will enjoy the fun we intend to have across the weekend.

“I’m feeling very nervous but excited at the same time but this is just one of several ways we aim to raise money to benefit the community.

“Most the staff will be taking part in the stepper marathon and we urge you to come down and support us, and they’ll even be a fun twist which is bound to excite people and make the event that little bit more special.”

The launch will be at 10am on Friday (March 27) and run until March 29 with all proceeds made over the weekend going to Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.
