A SCHEME which provides safe places for vulnerable people to go to if they need reassurance and support has been launched in Evesham.

The Safe Place scheme, launched last Friday, has so far seen six businesses sign up and these be can be found with Safe Place stickers in the shop window.

Staff at the Safe Place locations have been trained to be able to give reassurance and also help people contact other appropriate support.

The six businesses which have signed up so far are Bridge Street Kitchen, Cobwebs Tea Room, Evesham and District Mental Health Support Services, Herbies Coffee House, Moo Moo’s Café Bar and Moulton Hair and Beauty.

The Safe Place scheme was started when a group of vulnerable young people from the national advocacy group Our Way discovered their friends felt worried and anxious when out and about in their community.

After initially launching in Kidderminster, the scheme proved popular, leading Wychavon District Council and West Mercia Police to support Safe Places, with it now being rolled out across the district, with Pershore soon to follow.

David Hemming, Wychavon District Council’s Community Safety Manager, said: “We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Our Way and the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner to support and develop the Safe Place scheme.

“Supporting vulnerable people and helping them to feel safe and more confident is important and we are looking forward to working together to launch the scheme in Evesham and Pershore in the future.”
