Take a walk amongst the orchids on Fish Hill

KEEN walkers are being invited to join the County Council’s Countryside Site’s Team on their orchid walk.

The free guided walk takes place this Friday and will start from Fish Hill Picnic at 2pm.

The walk will leave from the car park and will take between one and one-and-a-half hours.

Fish Hill Picnic Place is made up of limestone grassland and beech woodland and is renowned for its orchids, with six different species being recorded there.

Orchids can be spotted there from May through to August, with species including the Common Spotted Orchid, Twayblades, White Helleborines and Bee Orchids.

Tanya Feasey, Assistant Countryside Sites Officer, said: “Fish Hill Picnic Place is one of the best sites for orchids in the county. This is a great opportunity to come and see the orchids and learn more about this fascinating plant.”
