Surveying future transport needs

Evesham Editorial 26th Nov, 2022   0

PASSENGER Transport surveys designed to gather information to determine future transport provision in Worcestershire are set to be carried out over the next couple of weeks.

From this week, contractors of Worcestershire County Council will be undertaking surveys with travellers at the county’s bus stations.

The quick survey will involve a couple of questions to find out where passengers are travelling from and to and for what purpose. This will be completely anonymous and will not affect any bus or rail services.

There will also be some CCTV cameras put up at bus and rail stations to count passengers travelling on bus or train.

Individuals cannot be identified as the recordings are used to count the volume of travellers only.

Coun Mike Rouse, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “I am pleased to see passenger transport surveys being undertaken across Worcestershire.

“These will provide valuable information to help inform a new countywide transport model that we are working hard with our partners to develop. It is through exercises like this, that our officers can thoroughly assess the impact of the pandemic on travel patterns, the data from these can also help support the testing of local development plans on the transport network.”

“Once fully built, the transport model will have a variety of uses, including testing the impact of proposed schemes on traffic demand, which is important for us going forward, as we look to attract future funding and develop further transport plans.”

“It would be great if as many people as possible could partake in the survey if they are approached.”

Worcestershire County Council is committed to investing in transport infrastructure throughout the county, unlocking growth and ensuring better connections for people and businesses across Worcestershire and beyond.
