Support for local runner

Evesham Editorial 16th Apr, 2019   0

AN EVESHAM firm has lent its support to an Offenham athlete who is taking part in the 2019 Targu Mures ETU Spring Distance Duathlon European Championships.

Alister Brown, who is 28, will compete in the sprint duathlon, which takes place in Romania in June.

The sprint duathlon is a multisport competition and includes a 5km run, followed by a 20km cycle and finishes with a further 2.5km run and Alister is hoping to complete the race in less than an hour.

Kanes Foods, which produces washed and ready-to-eat salad bowls and ready-to-cook stir fry vegetables, noodles, sauces and dressings, has provided funds which will help to cover Alister’s expenses, travel costs and also his new race kit for the competition.

Alister started working with a triathlon coach in November and is fitting in training every day which comprises running, swimming, cycling and gym work, whilst also working full-time and being a part-time running coach.

“Having the support of Kanes Foods behind this competition is amazing and has allowed me to focus on the race in hand and my training,” he said.

“I started running to help with my mental health and I found that not only did it really help me, but I enjoyed so much I started entering competitions. I would love to become the best athlete I can possibly be, so this race is one step further in helping me achieve my ambition and I really appreciate the support that Kanes Foods is providing.”

Tony Walsh, marketing controller at Kanes Foods, said: “Alister has big plans to become a successful athlete and Kanes Foods is really pleased to be supporting him.

“As a company, we believe it is important to support our local community and as we are a healthy produce company, what better way to get involved than support a talented athlete in the making.”
