Summer refurb to raise the bar

Evesham Editorial 28th Jul, 2018   0

A MAJOR revamp to improve facilities for students and teachers at an Evesham middle school has begun to mark the start of the summer break.

County chiefs have confirmed Blackminster Middle School will be revamped internally to include two new state-of-the-art science laboratories, a design technology area comprising a classroom, a food technology room, graphics room and an upgraded art and textiles area.

Staff toilets will be revamped, the school’s playground will be resurfaced and new security gates will be installed.

The ambitious refurbishment will take place in three phases with the first kicking off on Monday when the contractor arrived on site. All the work will be completed by February next year.

Headteacher Lorna Button said: “We are very pleased the County Council is supporting us with these refurbishments. The new state-of-the-art facilities like a science laboratory and food technology room will support Blackminster pupils to aspire to even greater achievements.”

Coun Marcus Hart, cabinet member for Education and Skills said: “Worcestershire County Council recognises the importance of good school facilities to stimulate interest and learning amongst students.

“We are confident that these refurbishments will inspire students to learn and be creative. These refurbishments will raise the standards of Blackminster School even higher.”

The cost of the project is estimated to be £830,000 and will be funded from the County Council’s Capital Investment Programme. The programme has invested in projects across a wide range of schools and settings, helping to ensure that children and young people receive the benefits of these services.

The scheme has been designed by Jacobs (UK) Ltd and the work will be undertaken by Hill Interior Contracts Ltd. The project will be project managed by Place Partnership Ltd.
