Students complete their out-of-this world experiment

YOUNGSTERS at an Evesham school have gathered their results from an out-of-this world experiment which saw them study seeds brought back to Earth by astronaut Tim Peake.

Students from the Vale of Evesham School took part in the UK Space Agency and Royal Horticultural Society Rocket Science Project by studying the effects of space on the growth of plants.

The students planted the rocket seeds, which spent six months in the International Space Station with British astronaut Tim Peake, and recorded the data as the seeds germinated and grew.

Science teacher Jenny Westmacott said: “Students noticed only a slight difference in growth between the two sets of seeds which indicated that the space seeds grew less well than the seeds which remained on Earth – but only very slightly.”
