Strong winds and heavy rain to lash Evesham and Pershore as Storm Barra arrives

HEAVY rain and strong winds look set to lash Worcestershire for a time tomorrow (Tuesday) as Storm Barra arrives.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning in advance of the gusts which are expected to reach in excess of 40mph and heavy rain which is expected mid-morning and last well into the afternoon.

As the system moves in from west, the strongest winds and impacts are expected to affect the Republic of Ireland. As the system begins to weaken, it will bring strong winds and rain, with the rain turning to snow across northern England and Scotland.

Frank Saunders, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Strong winds arriving across the west through Tuesday morning, will spread inland and reach eastern areas through the afternoon and early evening.

“Gusts of 45-50 mph are expected widely, with 60-70 mph in exposed coastal locations. The strongest winds will ease across inland areas into the overnight period.”

Barra is the second named storm of the season and will follow in the footsteps of Storm Arwen late last month which brought strong winds and snow to much of the county.
