Street Pastors celebrate milestone and new faces

Rob George 25th Nov, 2018   0

EVESHAM’s Street Pastors celebrated five years of looking after revellers and welcomed four new members during a ceremony in the heart of the town.

The caring team began patrols on the town’s streets in October 2013 to offer a helping hand to those on a night out in the town.

Volunteers were brought together as part of a project by Churches Together in Evesham and all of the town’s churches are involved with the Street Pastors scheme.

Evesham Street Pastors continue to support the busy night life of Evesham on a Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning as well as several Saturday nights.

The four new Street Pastors were commissioned by representatives of the Evesham Churches, Wychavon District Council, Evesham Town Council and Evesham’s police.

The Street Pastors patrol the streets in the centre of the town between 10pm and 3am on either a Friday or Saturday night each weekend.

They are all from local churches and are committed to care, listen and help those enjoying and serving the busy nightlife of Evesham. Their reputation for bringing a sense of peace and calm to troubled areas and ensuring the safety of revellers and those working, was, at the celebration, unreservedly supported by both councils and the police.

Street Pastors co-ordinator John Darby said: “These additional Street Pastors will enable us to patrol on more Saturday nights, which in recent months have become much busier.”
