GUSTS of up to 80mph could hit the Vale on Thursday (February 23) as the Met Office issues a yellow warning urging residents to be prepared.

The warning has been issued as a result of Storm Doris which is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain.

It could lead to power supplies being interrupted and disruption on the Vale’s travel network. There is also the danger of injury from flying debris.

The warning will take effect from 6am on Thursday and will remain in force until 6pm.

The Met Office’s chief forecaster said: “A developing area of low pressure is expected to move across the UK on Thursday.

“The exact timing and track of this system remain uncertain but there is potential for a short-lived core of very strong winds to develop.

“Whilst some disruption is expected outside of this stronger swathe of winds, the amber area looks most likely to see more significant disruption.”
