Still seeking war stories

Evesham Editorial 25th Feb, 2018   0

PERSHORE’S MP Harriett Baldwin has added her support to a search to find Worcestershire wartime heroines who served at the ground-breaking bases around the town.

Harriett met up with volunteers from the National Trust’s RAF Defford museum at Croome Court to publicise a search for local stories and memorabilia.

The museum is planning a special celebration of the role of local women serving at the base in war-time and volunteers are looking to talk to local people who may have served there or who have relatives who did.

The exhibition will celebrate the work of the Women’s Auxilliary Air Force and the work of women who served at RAF Defford during the Second World War.

The RAF base was the site of the very first pilot-less automated plane landing and work carried out there, and in Malvern, led to the development of radar and LCD displays.

“I was given a sneak preview of some of the amazing items already uncovered by the team and I have suggested a few ways that search can be expanded,” Mrs Baldwin said.

“I am keen to help them to spread the word to try and get as many people as possible to share their knowledge and help to make this a stunning exhibition.”

Anyone with information that they are able to share with the group can get in touch by e-mailing [email protected] or by contacting the team at RAF Defford Museum at Croome Court.
